Common Tiger butterfly, also called Oriental Striped Tiger, looks like the Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) .

Distribution:
Danaus genutia is distributed throughout India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and extending to South East Asia and Australia (except New Guinea). At least in the South Asian part of its range it is fairly common, locally very common. This butterfly occurs in scrub jungles, fallow land adjacent to habitation, dry and moist deciduous forests, preferring areas of moderate to heavy rainfall.
Appearance:
There are 4 wings and the wingspan is 75 to 95 mm. The color of the wings closed to body is orange which separated by black veining. The margins of the wings are black based with white marking near wing edges and 2 lines of small white dots near bottom of the wings. Underside is paler version of the topside. The male Common Tiger has a prominent black-and-white spot on the underside of the hind wing. The butterfly has 6 legs and 2 antennae (with rounded clubs at the end) . Wings held vertically when resting. The body is thin, smooth and divided into 3 sections- a head, thorax and abdomen. Head and thorax black with white spots on the back of the head, abdomen orange. Pouch on the hind wings.
